Hi,
This post is regarding your article “Reincarnation Theory”. In that article you had presented 3 theories out of which you elected theory 2 (i.e. Absolute consciousness exists and after death relative consciousness merges with the Absolute ) as the most logical of all. You’d even rejected the traditional Advaita’s/Hinduism’s idea of Karma as the deciding factor of this merger (relative consciousness with the Absolute).
With all due respect, I beg to differ. By accepting theory 2 as the most logical, you are alluding to the fact that Death is nothing but Salvation. You are assigning an enormous divinity to Death. Whatever be the deeds/karma of a person, he will merge with the Absolute. There is no need of any austerity/meditation etc to realize the divine. The only thing one has to do is simply die and you can have the mystical union, for which the great sages/monks of India have renounced the whole world. Irrespective of the level the manifestation of the divinity in an organism, it has to merge with the Absolute on Death.
What I believe is it is karma which decides the fate of a person. It has been proved that mind of a person on birth isn’t a “Tabula Rasa”. A person comes into the world with some impressions on his/her mind. Based on the impressions the birth of the person would be. The more the person realises the unity in the world, the more his impressions fade away and the more the divinity is manifested in him. There’s definitely a difference between a brute who kills people and a monk who realises the Brahman. By saying that on death everyone’s consciousness equally merges with the Absolute is a gross undermining of the efforts/knowledge/wisdom of those great monks like Shri Ramakrishna, Swami Vivekananda.
Barring this argument, I really liked the other articles and I’m keen on buying your book. I congratulate from the depth of my heart for your efforts to harmonize the Modern science with Advaita philosophy.
May God bless you.
Thanks,
Ravi S
Hi Ravi,
Thank you for your interesting comments.
It is true that in ‘what happens after death’, I had suggested that everyone undergoes the same fate on death. It is an astounding suggestion and I must say that I too am not fully comfortable with it, but out of the three this seems the most reasonable. That is why I espoused it, but as I said it is only a belief of mine and I do not have any logical arguments in its support.
My beliefs on “what happens on death” is based on my beliefs on “reincarnation” and this in turn is based on my beliefs on the nature of the soul. I do not believe there is a soul like a ‘ghost in the machine’, apart from our consciousness.
You must have read my article on the nature of the soul, please tell me your opinion on this.
An unrelated query regarding my blog is how you came to my “contact” page first? I have noticed that many people come to this page on my blog. What link led you to this page?
See your mail for my comment.
I wanted to comment on your reincarnation post but I thought it would be improper to post it on some other post. So I came to the Contact menu tab only to see this comment space and i just used it.
I am sorry. In the previous post, I meant the article “What happens after death?” and not the “Reincarnation Theory”.
i am very impressed with your views.
Yes re incarnation theory has been a basis for ethical behavior but a factual knowledge is appericiated by intellectuals . And ,an intelligent person is guided by his own conscience and value system, as told by Maslow.
Furthur to my last comment, i will like to add the following.
Yes ,Recarnation theory for moral and ethical behaviour is one thing but what about Nirvan or salvation>
Only good karma are not enough ,as GuruNanak says , repeating name is necessary or as Lord Krishna says to live in His Swroop or Krishna concsiouness only will give moksh.
So, for salvation, getting rid of the cycle of birth and death, something more than good karma is needed.
could you explain this in terms of science?Specially, in terms of your assertions. And , what is man’s job?
